I <3 U!!!

I am really blessed to have a sissy like you!!! Awwwwww…… Yes! I said it ūüôā We do complete each other, though 7 years apart, we are closer than ever! I love sharing my secrets with you and I like it that we can watch dramas we love together, sometimes even though we are just sitting around doing our own stuff, it’s good to know that you are there, and of course we make the best travelling companions (looking forward to conquering the whole world with you…when are we buying our world map?!)! Am I getting mushy??? Alright I shall stop gushing…but I do mean it…touched???

V for Valentino

I had a chance to visit the Valentino Retrospective Exhibition with Eileen today, and the dresses were spectacular, with amazing craftmanship and intricate detailing. Couturier Valentino may not be a trendsetter (according to the curator), but he knew what women want, they want to be beautiful. With that in mind, he created many romantic feminine flowy gowns that accentuates the women’s curves tastefully.

The man who made this possible : Valentino Garavani

White dress with intricate detailing.

To his signature RED dresses.

Valentino is so good at red dresses, that today, that particular shade of scarlet is known as Valentino Red.

Romantic white gown, with soft silk chiffon ruffles.

Intensive beadwork speaks opulence.

These dresses are indeed made for the Creme de la creme of the society, they are beautiful and timeless. In present times, as human beings are becoming more practical in their dressing hence causing decadent fashion era to fade away, I’d really like to see Haute Couture and Couture houses being preserved.

Fresh Year Ahead…2011

Hola! A fresh new year has begun and this year, unlike the last, has started with a blast of exciting bright colours! Gone are muted tones, and colours are here to reign.

Like the splash of new tones, my life has also become lively, not that it wasn’t in the past, but I had experience a period of dryness and lethargy, a time when I dread waking up and had to drag myself to work everyday. I’m glad that the barreness was long gone with the passing of 2010. This year, I had a few interesting things up my sleeves, new dreams, new dresses, a new venture, a short trip (which was long overdued and well deserved), a road trip …. and more to come… life seemed wonderful somehow, and I embrace it like never before in my life! And I hope this energy will go on and on!

To start, I’ve got a few new dresses! Some are still in production, but here are few that are ready and on the racks!

As this year is gonna be a inspirational year for me, more marvelous dresses are on their way! So watch out for this space.

Till then…

Mel’s Look Post – the Hairy Issue!

Editor’s Note:

I have always wanted to be able to spot own trends! Like Anna Wintour who’s the chief editor in Vogue, I’m the chief editor for Mel’s Look Post ūüôā It will not just about glorious fashion, but everything else too, based on my own opinion! This is just for fun but I may get hooked on doing this…LOL

The Hairy Issue

I thought of writing about hairstyles on my first entry as hair is one thing that never stays the same on me, the longest that a hairstyle stayed with me was 6 months (ever since my poly days) and the fastest was 2 weeks! I remember during my third year in Poly, I went to my hair dresser every 2 weeks to get a new hair cut until she kinda ask me to not go to her so often as she had already ran out of ideas for new hairstyles, and I remembered telling her to cut my fringe, just so that I feel “shiok”! That was my addiction! I spotted the craziest hairdo in my cohort, it was a asymmetric shaven “mullet”, with metallic blue fringe and bright green hair at the back! I had to wear a beanie for my driving test, just incase I gave the tester a bad impression!

My hair-volution continued even after I started working, I had a SGD 20 Alfro perm from Bangkok, and when my straight hair started growing out, I had it changed to a Mohawk, I grew it into a Pixie cut, Bob, SGD 75 extensions in Phuket, which lasted 2 months and a miserable 4hours of removal by myself, then an Androgynous boy cut…

then grew it back to shoulder length during my SQ days.

With fringe, perm, Angled Bob, Cutesy Bob with fringe, then perm is again at SGD300 in Hongkong, super long curly extensions which I removed after my surgery, grew my hair out again due to loss of excessive hair during removal of extensions, Digital perm then finally a month later, Cool perm (aka the old school perm) into tighter curls with lotsa volume which I love  and is so tres chic now!

Many hairstylists or hairstyle websites emphasis on facial shapes, like if you have an oval shaped face you are lucky and if your face belongs to anything but oval, “God bless you”! You can only have certain hairstyles that compliments your face shape. Well I say, they are bullshit!!! Let me tell you three secrets… I have a round face… I love myself…and I am confident! Confidence is the key to looking great in everything, from what you wear, to how you look! You do not need to limit yourself to the rule of the thumb. Having confidence also equates to being attractive!

Spiral Curls make soft waves look boring, straight Bob so passe and straight hair…don’t even mention.simply¬†adore thecurls on Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City Season 1, it made her character oozed femininity, sexiness, confidence, fun and style without trying too hard. The hair should not look too lustrous, in fact it should look a little frizzy, so it gives an impression of being effortless! This is the hairstyle to look out for and if you are gutsy enough to try it for yourself, who knows it may just be the next big hair!

xoxo,

Mel

New Dress for A Wedding!

Last Sun, the 27th Sep 2009, I was invited to my client’s wedding, it was one of the most lavish wedding I’ve attended so far in my life! The Tower ballroom was elegantly decorated, the music was great, the food was delicious, the company was fun and most importantly, the lovely couple made the whole wedding perfect, they were indeed made for each other!

It was such an honour for me when Ting came over to my shop one evening to personally pass me her wedding invitation and I was so touched, and even though then, I felt a little awkard as I do not know the rest of her guest, I made up my mind to give her my support and to witness her big day!

Everything happened one evening, when Ting called for an appointment, she needed a dress for her pre-wedding shoot as her Vera Wang gown wasn’t really at that time. She came over and fell in love with our collection, especially “Pink Grecian” and “Pearl”, she bought the dresses that day.

After her shoot, she persuaded her mum, Molly, to get a dress made from Caramel & Co., at first Molly was a little hesitant as she did not have good experience with made-to-measure services and prior to that she had ordered 2 dresses but they were not to her liking, so I guess this was sort of her last resort. After her 1st fitting with me, she was very happy with the gown and made 2 other dresses with me!Mel & Molly

So that was how it happened, how I met Ting and Molly…

So for the big day, I designed a brand new dress for myself and had my seamstress made it for me, thank God, it fitted very well, it was only completed on Sat evening because it was pretty last minute and I gotta praise my seamstress for this dress! It was definitely well made despite it being a last minute job, I think I gave the sketch and measurement to her on Thursday night! Well I must say that the dress was indeed a statement piece coz I got many compliments on this dress, plus I got ladies coming up to me asking about my LBD=)

The good news is I’m getting another piece done, so any ladies who wants it can get it fitted in Caramel & Co., I reckon it be ready end of this week! Hehe, so do make appointments with us, before it’s sold! It’s only 1 piece! =)

From now on, I’ll be putting up pictures of new dresses created out of random inspirations here . =)

I’m in love with Vincent!

Starry
starry night
paint your palette blue and grey

look out on a summer’s day
with eyes that know the
darkness in my soul.
Shadows on the hills
sketch the trees and the daffodils

catch the breeze and the winter chills

in colors on the snowy linen land.
And now I understand what you tried to say to me

how you suffered for your sanity
how you tried to set them free.
They would not listen
they did not know how

perhaps they’ll listen now.

Starry
starry night
flaming flowers that brightly blaze

swirling clouds in violet haze reflect in
Vincent’s eyes of China blue.
Colors changing hue
morning fields of amber grain

weathered faces lined in pain
are soothed beneath the artist’s
loving hand.
And now I understand what you tried to say to me

how you suffered for your sanity
how you tried to set them free.
perhaps they’ll listen now.

For they could not love you
but still your love was true

and when no hope was left in sight on that starry
starry night.
You took your life
as lovers often do;
But I could have told you
Vincent
this world was never
meant for one
as beautiful as you.

Starry
starry night
portraits hung in empty halls

frameless heads on nameless walls
with eyes
that watch the world and can’t forget.
Like the stranger that you’ve met

the ragged men in ragged clothes

the silver thorn of bloddy rose
lie crushed and broken
on the virgin snow.
And now I think I know what you tried to say to me

how you suffered for your sanity

how you tried to set them free.
They would not listen
they’re not
listening still
perhaps they never will…

I was emotional when I watched Vincent’s life and I realise I fell in love with him.

His paintings are breathtaking, I especially love how he used the soft fluid lines with short strong strokes in his paintings, they are so beautiful warm and colours so vibrant, but in this heart I guess he felt opposite, cold and alone, very alone. I wished I was there…

*I’ve just found a new goal in life, to own one of Vincent’s painting.
